Goblin Laws of Warcraft

Goblin Laws of Warcraft

My favorite expression of this hobby is making a tribute to some setting or game or show by I enjoy by cramming it into rpg rules. Almost every time I do this I am chasing a feeling I had as a kid when I first fell in love with [fill in that particular media].

There's hundreds of little choices about what parts of a thing I want to express my appreciation for by putting them into a hack. And if I'm lucky I get to feel like "yes, that is an elegant way to portray the KAMEHAMEHA wave in this format"

For a while I felt self conscious that this is some lesser form of game design / blog writing, inferior to the trve bloggers that make up game content that is less obviously inspired by a specific work. As if there was a competition.

But as I have come back to my blogging hobby I realized (again) that this concern I had is total bullshit. Not only do you, dear reader, probably not share that view, but I also care much more what 10 year old me would think about reading this.

So here's the beginning of a World of Warcraft to GLOG hack.

The Goblin Laws of Warcraft.

Things This Hack Must Achieve

  • The pure joy of building a spec
  • Resource management, but fun
  • Dungeon forward
  • Big Cooldowns and Button Pressing
  • Juicy Gear Upgrades
  • CRITS
This game is meant to played in beer and pretzels fashion. What that means to me is all or nearly all abilities will be cool combat or dungeoneering abilities, balance is simply a type of druid, and most monsters in a dungeon will be hostile on sight. If it is ever actually played, I will run it as a dungeon of the week style game that players can drop in and out of.

Also, in the spirit of the source material, boss mechanics will be used to full effect and set piece fights will be common.

Within the doc are core basic rules and 4 classes
