My favorite expression of this hobby is making a tribute to some setting or game or show by I enjoy by cramming it into rpg rules. Almost every time I do this I am chasing a feeling I had as a kid when I first fell in love with [fill in that particular media].
There's hundreds of little choices about what parts of a thing I want to express my appreciation for by putting them into a hack. And if I'm lucky I get to feel like "yes, that is an elegant way to portray the KAMEHAMEHA wave in this format"
For a while I felt self conscious that this is some lesser form of game design / blog writing, inferior to the trve bloggers that make up game content that is less obviously inspired by a specific work. As if there was a competition.
But as I have come back to my blogging hobby I realized (again) that this concern I had is total bullshit. Not only do you, dear reader, probably not share that view, but I also care much more what 10 year old me would think about reading this.
So here's the beginning of a World of Warcraft to GLOG hack.
The Goblin Laws of Warcraft.
Things This Hack Must Achieve
- The pure joy of building a spec
- Resource management, but fun
- Dungeon forward
- Big Cooldowns and Button Pressing
- Juicy Gear Upgrades
- CRITS
